Project “Metrology for radioactive waste management” PDF Print E-mail

At the end of 2011 the Head of the SW Projects of ENVINET a.s. Skála Lukáš was awarded a Researcher Grant contract of the ENV09 MetroRWM Project called “Metrology for radioactive waste management”.

This Project is a part of the European Metrology Research Programme initiated under the auspices of EUROMET. ENV09 MetroRWM will be completed in 2014 and its main aims are the development of standardised traceable measurement methods for solid radioactive waste clearance (free release) and disposal along with the development of novel instruments and methods for in-situ measurements. The completion of the Project is expected inter alia to reduce the repository costs, protect the nuclear industry workers from unexpected levels of radiation and minimize the possible environment contamination caused by incorrect free release measurement (FRM). The coordinator of the whole Project is the Czech Metrological Institute.

ENVINET a.s. was chosen as the REG Home Organisation due to our vast experience and achievements in the field of RW management including realization of complex projects for RW characterization and FRM. Our specialist Lukáš Skála is an expert in the spectrometric measurements, development and implementation of SW for this field. He was the member of ENVINET a.s. group in realization of project in the Czech Republic and worldwide including such countries as Russia, Lithuania, Romania, Armenia and Italy.

Lukáš Skála as the REG-Researcher will contribute to the design of the measuring equipment, shielding chamber and other mechanical parts of the FRM facility as well as the construction of the collimator for the repository acceptance experimental facility. He will be also responsible for the whole software support of the Project including the creation of SW algorithms for FRM, spectra evaluation, efficiency calibration, in-situ measurements and analysis.

You can find more information about “Metrology for radioactive waste management” at its official website where will be also published all the results of the Project.
